Smith Awarded Outstanding Teacher

Trucker Buddy International has awarded Chelsea Smith, a 4th grade teacher at Golden Hills Elementary School in Oroville, CA, nominated by her trucker buddy Mario Moran, a driver for Walmart out of Buckeye, Arizona.

Mario Moran has nominated his teacher, Chelsea Smith of Golden Hills Elementary School in Oroville, California, for the Trucker Buddy International Outstanding Teacher Award. Moran wrote in his nomination letter that Ms. Smith does an outstanding job with her students, encouraging their art skills while also educating them about the trucking industry.

Moran states, “Last year when I went to her school, the students and the teachers enjoyed looking inside and outside of the truck. Students were able to take pictures of themselves with the truck home to show their families. I love this program and how it shows the students about how things they see and buy in stores are transported by trucks.”

Through the Trucker Buddy program, Smith is able to plan lessons about math, geography, history and arts in a forum where students can relate these lessons to the real world and to the trucking industry. Trucker Buddy is glad to have her and her students in our program, and want to congratulate her on being named Outstanding Teacher.

“This program reaches way beyond a pen and paper,” said Fred Sweetwood, a long time Trucker Buddy and driver for over 40 years. “It paints the Rockies, the bitter cold of North Dakota and the devastation of Oklahoma City and Katrina. It brings America to the classroom through the eyes of a truck driver.”
