Tammy Egnew - Outstanding Teacher

Hale Swords, a driver for EPES Transport Systems has nominated his teacher Tammy Egnew of Salem Elementary in Russell Springs, Kentucky for the Trucker Buddy Outstanding Teacher Award. This award is given to teachers each year for outstand service as nominated by their driver. They have been matched for two years and have both worked to encourage the students to excel in their studies as well as teaching them about the trucking industry.

Hale’s comments are below.

“Mrs. Egnew should be named an outstanding teacher for Trucker Buddy because of the great teacher she is. Her passion for teaching has spanned over 25 years and she will be ending her teaching career this school year.

To watch her as she interacts with the students is amazing and she loves each one as though they were her own. I have been able to work with Miss Tammy for 2 years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I wish we had more teachers like her who make learning fun.

Her idea of getting two of the students to ask me a question when I send pictures not only helps them to learn new things but also to structure a sentence and sure the words are spelled correctly using proper punctuation.
I am very blessed to be able to work with Miss Tammy and her students for the past 2 years and they will have a large place to fill when she retires.”

“This program reaches way beyond a pen and paper,” said Fred Sweetwood, a long time Trucker Buddy and driver for over 40 years. “It paints the Rockies, the bitter cold of North Dakota and the devastation of Oklahoma City and Katrina. It brings America to the classroom through the eyes of a truck driver.”
