Steps to a Successful Match

1. Make a commitment to yourself and your class to do what is needed to be successful. Being a Trucker Buddy means you will influence the lives of school children. Showing them with words and actions that you willing to invest your time and efforts into this will be your first life lessons of your tenure as a Trucker Buddy..

2. Read the rules and proceedures.

3. Call your teacher immediately. They are the gatekeeper of the classroom and the relationship you build with her will determine how you can help the children.

4. Write the classroom each week about what you see on the road. Remember some children never leave the city or state they were born in so you are their eyes to the rest of the world.

5. Keep your letters positive and educational. Stay away from political or controversial discussions. Write about nature, famous bridges, mountains, man made buildings and about the positive things about your profession.

6. Pose educational questions such as word problems and counting the states between where they live and where you are located at the time. Challenge them to write you letters with the answers.

7. Download the Trucker Buddy Cirriculum and get ideas from it about ways you can help the teacher instruct the children.

8. The students are curious about life on the road so tell them what it's like to drive a truck and do your job in a positive way.

9. Last, be yourself and have fun. Remember, the more you put into this program the more you'll get out of it. Don't be surprised if you become a hero to a class of great kids.

10. If your route or location is near the school discuss with your teacher a personal visit. Bring your truck if you can.

4. Ask your students to write the driver as an introduction.

5. Download the Trucker Buddy Cirriculum and get ideas from it about ways you can us the program to help your students learn. Use some of the glossary terms in your spelling tests.

6. Trucker Buddies love pictures. Send them a lot of them.

7. If your driver's location is near the school then schedule a date and time for him/her to bring their truck by the school. Be sure to get permission from the principal.
